If you love cozy, handmade fashion, this crochet cardigan decorated with adorable cherries and daisies is the perfect project. It’s a beautiful mix of soft textures, vibrant appliqués, and playful design — ideal for anyone who loves a cute, cottagecore aesthetic. Follow this detailed step-by-step guide to create your own charming cardigan from start to finish.

🧶 Materials You’ll Need

  • Yarn:
    • Base: soft acrylic or cotton yarn (cream or pastel pink)
    • Red (for cherries)
    • Green (for leaves and stems)
    • White and yellow (for daisies)
  • Crochet hook: 4 mm
  • Tapestry needle
  • Buttons: 5–6 matching or decorative buttons
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers

🧥 Step 1: Crochet the Cardigan Base

Back Panel

  1. Foundation Chain:
    • Chain (ch) 70–80 stitches, depending on size (S–L).
  2. Rows 1–50:
    • Work in double crochet (dc) or half double crochet (hdc) for a simple, textured body.
  3. Armholes:
    • Stop 10 stitches before each edge at the top to leave space for sleeves.

Front Panels (Make 2)

  1. Chain 35–40 (half of back panel).
  2. Crochet the same number of rows as the back.
  3. For the neckline, begin decreasing 1 stitch at the inner edge every 2 rows for a smooth curve.

Sleeves

  1. Chain 40.
  2. Crochet evenly for 35–40 rows.
  3. Add slight increases (1 stitch on each end every 5 rows) for puff sleeves.
  4. Finish with ribbed cuffs: alternate front and back post double crochets for 5 rows.

Assembly

  • Sew or crochet all panels together using slip stitch or whip stitch.
  • Attach sleeves to armholes.

🌼 Step 2: Make the Daisy Appliqués (for the Pink Cardigan)

  1. Center (Yellow):
    • Magic ring, 6 single crochet (sc), pull tight.
  2. Petals (White):
    • In each stitch: (ch 2, 3 double crochet, ch 2, sl st).
    • Repeat around to form 6–8 petals.
  3. Sew daisies randomly on sleeves and front panels using the tapestry needle.

🍒 Step 3: Make the Cherry Appliqués (for the Cream Cardigan)

  1. Cherry (Red):
    • Magic ring, 6 sc.
    • Round 2: 6 inc (12).
    • Round 3–4: sc around.
    • Round 5: (sc, dec) × 6 (close). Stuff lightly before closing.
    • Make two per motif.
  2. Stem (Green):
    • Chain 12.
    • Slip stitch (sl st) back along chain.
  3. Leaf (Green):
    • Chain 6, work (sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc) in same chain, turn to form a leaf.
  4. Sew two cherries together with a stem and one leaf. Attach motifs to front and sleeves.

🪡 Step 4: Finishing Touches

  • Crochet a button band:
    • Along the front edge, work one row of single crochet.
    • Add buttonholes every 10 rows on one side.
    • Attach matching buttons to the opposite side.
  • Weave in all yarn ends neatly.
  • Steam block gently to shape the cardigan perfectly.

💕 Optional Customizations

  • Add extra daisies or cherries for a fuller, whimsical look.
  • Use pastel blue, lavender, or mint for spring variations.
  • Add embroidery (tiny hearts or vines) for extra flair.
