Bring springtime charm into your crochet projects with these Floral Granny Squares! Each square features a vibrant 3D flower — from sunflowers and poppies to roses and lilacs — all blooming beautifully on a classic white background. Perfect for making blankets, bags, cushions, or wall hangings, these squares combine traditional crochet with a modern floral twist.

🧶 Materials You’ll Need

  • Yarn: Cotton or acrylic yarn in multiple colors
    • White (background)
    • Green (leaves and stems)
    • Yellow, red, pink, purple, black (flowers)
  • Hook: 3.0 mm or 3.5 mm
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors

🌼 Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Flower Center (for all flowers)

  • R1: Magic ring, 8 dc inside ring, sl st to join.
  • R2: Change to petal color, (ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, sl st) in each stitch around for petals.
  • Fasten off and weave in ends.

🌻 Sunflower

  • Center: Black yarn
  • Petals: Yellow yarn — work 2 rounds of (3 dc cluster + ch 2) in each stitch to form layers.
  • Leaves: Green yarn — 2 small leaf motifs attached to sides of petals.

🌺 Rose

  • Center: Yellow yarn
  • Petals: Pink yarn — crochet a chain of 40, work (3 dc, 1 sl st) across to create rolling petals.
  • Roll and sew in place.
  • Add two green leaves underneath.

🌹 Poppy

  • Center: Black yarn
  • Petals: Red yarn — create 4 large petals using (ch 3, 5 dc, ch 3, sl st) repeated four times.
  • Sew around the center to form a full poppy shape.

💜 Lavender

  • Center: Yellow yarn
  • Petals: Purple yarn — 6 small long petals made with (ch 5, dc, ch 5, sl st).
  • Add a green stem curling outward for a realistic look.

🧩 Assemble Granny Squares

  1. Start with white yarn and chain 5, join to form a ring.
  2. Round 1: 3 dc clusters separated by ch 2 in each corner.
  3. Continue expanding in classic granny style until desired size (usually 4 rounds).
  4. Sew or crochet the flower motifs onto the center of each square.

💕 Project Ideas

  • Combine 12+ squares for a floral blanket 🌸
  • Make decorative pillow covers
  • Stitch 4 squares into a tote bag
  • Use as individual coasters or wall art

🌿 Tips

  • Mix colors for variety — pastels for a soft look or brights for a bold design.
  • Block your squares for a neat, professional finish.
